Sustainability

Aims

TRIKL. is a one woman operation so all components of production and distribution are able to be controlled and managed in the most sustainable way.

A lot of consideration has gone into ensuring that TRIKL products are an environmentally conscious purchase- from the candle materials to the packaging everything has been chosen with care to ensure best sustainable practice.

Please re-use and recycle cuties

I am happy to say that all of our packaging components are biodegradable and most are safe for home composting systems!

The cardboard components have a low acidic content with the tissue paper and coloured stuffing completely acid free. Even our address labels and adhesive tape are plant based and BPA free so they will not release any harmful chemicals into your soil.

The only components which are not recommended for home composting are the information cards and the logo stickers.

Everything else is 100% safely biodegradable!

TRIKL packaging should be reused when possible or recycled if composting is not possible.

Wax on- Wax off

TRIKL Candles are made with Emma’s special blend of soy and palm wax- this blend helps ensure longevity of burn and vibrancy of candle colours. Palm and soy waxes are both bio-degradable but not recommended for composting when mixed with essential oils and dyes. They can be disposed of in general waste if reuse is not possible.

Neither of these waxes produce harmful off-gassing when burnt unlike many waxes on the market.

However, as with all mass agricultural production these days the high demand for the cultivation of soy and palm products resulted in issues of deforestation, land pollution and labour force abuse issues. When I set out to make candles I knew that this was going to be one of the biggest sustainability obstacles I faced. It was an area I spent a long time researching.

The palm wax used for TRIKL products is produced by a manufacturer who is part of the Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The RSPO is committed to ‘responsible and sustainable use of natural resources’ this means that the products are procured from sustainable plantations. For anyone looking to make palm wax products it is best practice to purchase from a RSPO member.

Similarly, I use 100% certified soy which ensures purity of product and I am on the hunt for a new supplier for organic soy wax. Organic soy wax comes from plantations which take a more environmental approach to their farming practice; avoiding heavy pesticides and over use of land.

This is a sustainability component of TRIKL which I am constantly considering and researching- if I discover issues with current suppliers or better options become available then I will of course make the necessary adjustments!

Scent

TRIKL Candles are lightly scented with sweet orange essential oils- they do not cast scent around the room but instead may provide a waft of sweet orange when you pick them up. I have specifically chosen to use a natural oil and not manufactured scents- whilst these have their place in the candle industry I wanted to ensure a clean burning product so decided against using them.
